NYCFHC Lead the Way at Masters Hockey World Cup!

Updated: Sep 15, 2023

The Masters Hockey World Cup 2022 was staged in Nottingham, UK. It brought together the best women and mens teams in the world across both Over 35s and Over 40s age groups. With over a thousand players representing every continent on the planet (except the Poles) the 10 day tournament played out in blazing summer sunshine with plenty of fierce (but healthy) competition.

And NYCFHC was well represented at the tournament! Captaining and playing for the USA O40s team was our very own MyClub (Danny Haydon), Bublé (Andrew Todd), Angry Alan (Ben Riches), and Duppers (David de Prez).

The four from New York FHC were an integral part of the team, strung across the midfield and leading the line. Playing seven games in 10 days is tough going, especially in the brutal heat of a never-experienced-before British heatwave!

But the USA team, and our NYCFHC boys, did'em proud, finishing in a respectable 8th out of 14 teams, falling just short in their last two games and so missing out on a top 6 placement. An accumulation of injuries taking its toll in the end, including our own MyClub who managed to break his wrist in a feisty game against the Argentinians! (didn't slow him down at the socials afterwards!)

Well done to the NYCFHC lads! The next World Cup is due to be held in Cape Town, South Africa in Fall 2024. Expect to see even better NYCFHC representation there!
