Once again the NYCFHC Men's team have done it when they needed to - winning the NEFHA League Playoffs for the second year in a row and retaining their status as Playoff Champions!
And what a Playoff day it was, with all the intensity and drama you've come to expect from this showpiece end-of-season bumper weekend. By virtue of finishing fourth in the regular season, NYCFHC was pitted against league winners Rye/Westchester in the first semi-final. As inevitable as the sweltering June heat that showed up for Playoff Day, NYCFHC went to work.
After going 1-0 down early, the NY team started to get into its groove and before long the goals started to flow. It's never an easy game against Rye/Westchester and this one played out to the very last second. But NYC got over the line, winning 2-1... job done. Our boys progressed onto the final where they were to meet Greenwich 1, who beat Islanders 1 in the other semi-final.
The final was a tense affair against ye auld enemy. Both teams feeling the effects of the heat and playing their second games of the day. Once again NYCFHC went behind. Once again they had to claw their way back into the match - and that's just what they did! The deadly attacks and relentless running started to pay off as our men first pulled level, then raced past to a 3-1 lead. The final whistle couldn't come soon enough. But when it did the boys in blue knew they'd done it...AGAIN!
Congratulations NYCFHC Men on being NEFHA Playoff Champions 2022/23!
